作曲のレッスンって?作曲のレッスンでは、生徒は取り組んでいる課題の作品のスコアを見せたり、
MIDIファイルで音源を再生したりするのが一般的です。教師はその曲をより

On Composition Lessons

In a composition lesson, the student will most likely show a printed score of
the piece they are working on and often play the accompanying MIDI file.
The teacher will then offer ideas on how to improve, deepen, or expand the
piece. Depending on the need and level of the student, these comments range
from the specific and local technical issues – such as range, timbre, orchestration,
or notation – to much broader ideas such as form, overall compositional balance,
or a more economical use of material. Though the teacher will sometimes ask
questions, they more often offer suggestions for the student to consider in their
next draft. While this format is by far the most common for most composition
lessons, a study or listening of repertoire, general discussion about aesthetics,
or career advice might also be included.

The basic format of a presentation by the student followed by assessment from
the teacher is one very familiar to instrumental lessons. Furthermore, the interest
in offering insight from a variety of angles strikes a similar parallel: examining technique
and artistry, large and small scale, devoting the majority of time on specific suggestions,
but also rounding it out with more general concepts. While most lessons are normally
given to instrumental instruction, sometime may be given to discussing career development
or any other related aspect that may help the student become a more knowledgeable
and complete professional musician.
