‘Bernstein at 100’ Live recording of the Tanglewood Gala Concert is now available on Blu-ray/DVD.

C Major Entertainment has released the live recording of Leonard Bernstein’s 100th birthday Gala Concert at the Tanglewood Music Festival  on DVD and Blu-ray.

Midori performs the first movement of Leonard Bernstein’s Serenade (after Plato’s ‘Symposium’)  with the Boston Symphony under the baton of Christoph Eschenbach. This is the same work she performed at Tanglewood as a 14-year-old, with the composer conducting, when she famously broke two E strings in succession, borrowing the violins of the concertmaster and assistant concertmaster and finishing the Serenade without missing a beat.

Other artists participating in the Gala Concert included Andris Nelsons, Michael Tilson Thomas, Keith Lockhart, John Williams, Yo-Ma Ma, Thomas Hampson, Susan Graham and Audra McDonald. The Boston Symphony Orchestra was joined by members of the New York Philharmonic, Vienna Philharmonic, Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra, Pacific Music Festival and the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival.

The concert will be broadcast on December 8th in Germany, Austria and Switzerland (3SAT), on December 16th in Japan (NHK) and 0n  December 28th in the United States (PBS).
