In the opening movement of [Bach's Sonata No. 2 in A minor BWV 1003], Midori set a tone of austere beauty, and the plaintive lines created by double-stops in the slow third movement were also lovely. The fugue showed off her perfect intonation and let a listener marvel at how she sculpted the lines. For 25 minutes, she re-created Bach's writing with a singular intent and clarity that was remarkable.
