Midori's musical skills are of a quality rarely found today...She concentrates with exemplary intensity on the present moment, yet never lacks substance (or slips into insubstantiality). Rather her music gradually seems to absorb its own narrative: the first few notes appear to be simple, but thereafter each stage is as a concentrated amplification of the preceding one, releasing expressive energy in the process. In the end the music does not present itself as an image which gradually manifests itself in the listener's mind but seems to 'hit' him with a single blow.
