Violinist Midori Gives Exhilarating Performance

The centerpiece of evening was Midori's spectacular performance of the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto. From the light and sweet opening theme of the first movement to the raucous Slavic dance in the last movement, Midori's romp through the work's myriad character changes was exhilarating. Her technical virtuosity is jaw dropping at times; for example, the brutal double- and triple-stop passages were both crystal clear and played with a sensitivity of the bow that doesn't seem like it should be possible. Combined with her ability to change timbres and expression without losing a continuous musical thread, it made for a dramatic performance
