FROM MIDORI

24 Nov 2013

Dear Friends,

In the aftermath of the Typhoon Haiyan, my heart goes out to all victims and to those who are currently dedicating their lives to helping alleviate the suffering caused by this powerful storm. Without being there, it is hard for me to imagine the repercussions of this natural disaster and the challenges that will remain for those in the region for years to come. I encourage readers to contribute to the relief effort in whatever way they can. The Red Cross has a website page dedicated to helping victims of the typhoon in the Philippines:  https://www.redcross.org/donate/

As we approach the American celebration of Thanksgiving and the traditional “holiday season” in many parts of the world, I am thankful for the opportunities I have had to learn, teach, perform and engage with others around the experience of making music. Next month I look forward to joining three young string players in Japan to prepare for our 10-day visit to Myanmar, where we look forward to meeting people, young and old, as well as creative artists, performers, NGO personnel, and volunteers from around the world in settings far removed from most of our experience.
