Fargo-Moorhead Symphony Orchestra and Fargo-Moorhead Area Youth Symphonies
ORP: February 2010

In operation since 1931, the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony presents a variety of performances each year, including: a five-concert Masterworks Series at NDSU Festival Concert Hall, three performances of a Holiday Pops Concert downtown at the Fargo Theatre, a free outdoor summer concert at Trollwood Park, Young People's Concerts during the school day for children, and a Pizza Pop Family Concert. Music Director Bernard Rubenstein selects an enticing variety of music that appeals to classical music aficionados and first-time concertgoers alike.

The Fargo-Moorhead Area Youth Symphonies was founded in 1967 to give musically talented students from the Fargo-Moorhead area an opportunity to expand their musical experiences. The original goal of the youth symphony was to be an addition to junior and senior high school music education in the community; players are expected to participate in and retain allegiance to their school instrumental music programs. The organization divided its growing ensemble into two separate groups in 1993: the Junior High Concert Strings for students in grades 6 through 8, and the Senior High Symphony Orchestra for students in grades 9 through 12. The F-M Area Youth Symphonies present three concerts each year, plus additional outreach performances. The Senior High Symphony Orchestra also joins the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony Orchestra in a side-by-side performance once each year.
